4 Ways to Deter Summer Pests Around Your Commercial Property

Mosquitoes aren’t the only pests you need to keep away from your commercial property. Here are some ideas for how to discourage pests from turning your property into theirs.

Mosquitoes aren’t the only pests you need to keep away from your commercial property. Summertime heat and storms can encourage other pests to invade your building and the carefully tended landscapes around it. Here are some ideas for how to discourage pests from turning your property into theirs.

Look at the Grass

The first thing you should do is take a closer look at all of the grass on your commercial property. You might think that ants and fire ants are only a nuisance at your next company picnic, then you’d be surprised how problematic they can be on a daily basis if you don’t keep them under control. Look through the grassy spots in your parking lot and in the grass right outside your front door.

Find Hives

Next, you need to look for insect hives and any nests that they may have built outside the hive. You don’t want any of your customers to be affected by allergic reactions to bee stings. Even if your customers aren’t allergic to bees, just seeing them can drive them away, especially if hornets and wasps have taken residence in your overhangs or by your entrances. Make sure you call on trained professionals who know what they’re doing.

Replace Weather Stripping

After you’ve done all that, the next step is to replace your weather stripping. If you can’t remember the last time you added some new layers of weather stripping, then it’s a sign that you should probably do that before the summer ends. Sealing up any air leaks can keep bugs from entering your building. The high temperatures and bright sunshine may encourage you to spend more time outside, but you should also look at the doors and windows leading in and out of your property to check that their weather stripping isn’t completely worn out.

Inspect for Termites

You’ll also need to be on the lookout for termites. Conducting an inspection once a year is the best way to keep them away from your commercial property. Infestations can be tricky to find, but if you want to avoid the high costs associated with termite repairs, then you have to do your best to keep them from damaging your building, wood fences, and decorative trees in the first place.
