Grass Care Tips

A gorgeous lawn starts with healthy grass.

Every homeowner wants the perfect lawn. You know the one: soft, bright green grass and all. Well, there’s actually quite a bit that goes into creating such a landscape. A gorgeous lawn starts with healthy grass. Help your grass stay healthy this spring and summer with these tips!

Need for Seed

Sometimes, due to traffic, soil erosion, flooding, or other causes, you may notice a bald patch in your lawn. These call for seed. You can also use sod, but bear in mind that for large areas this isn’t very cost-effective. Call Atlantic Maintenance Group and we will help you find the correct type of grass seed for your region. Our trained professionals can even come out and lay it down for you so that you can be well on your way to a lush, green lawn!

Cutting the Grass

That’s right, lawn mowing season is here! When it’s time to cut the grass, cutting it to the right length is key. Mowing it too short can actually stress it out. The idea is to just trim it, so you’re only cutting the top third of the grass. Taller grass actually encourages root development.  It is a widely held belief that if you cut the grass short enough, you won’t have to cut it as often. Actually, it re-grows so fast that you’re really not actually saving yourself any time.

Water

Make sure your grass gets a good, thorough soaking once a week. This encourages the roots to grow deeper into the soil. Wet soil is much easier for them to grow into because it is so much softer. Long, strong roots will help your grass stay healthier longer, especially during the hot summer months. When it’s super-hot and sunny, everything on the surface gets all dried out. With deep roots, your grass will be more likely to stay hydrated.
